Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964 is a prominent American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first vice president to be female and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and also as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then hired by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and the legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She is well-known for her direct questions to Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
